"Damn we can't have anything just for us"
These among other things were some of the comments in result to the victory of Zeta Tau Alpha in the Sprite Step Off Competition in Houston. Clearly influenced by the masses of sore ass losers Sprite released a Facebook statement:
After the National Finals Competition this past weekend in Atlanta wrapped, we got together to do our post-competition review and found a scoring discrepancy in the sorority results. After looking at it and looking at it AGAIN, we determined there isn’t a definitive resolution.
Sprite is all about preserving the honesty and integrity of this competition. Because the scoring discrepancy can’t be resolved and due to the really tight margin between the first and second place sorors, we feel that the only right thing to do is to name both Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Chapter & Zeta Tau Alpha, Epsilon Chapter, co-first place winners of the Sprite Step Off.
With these revised results, we’re gonna increase Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Chapter’s scholarship prize to $100K, consistent with what Zeta Tau Alpha also got for their first prize winnings.
So instead of the girl that won really owning the 1st place position it's now shared?Bullshit! I know Zeta Tau Alpha won't want to make waves over this but I'd be tight. Dont pull the race card just cuz they stunted on y'all. Step yo game up!!!!
Peep this.I LOVE my people, culture and what we've brought to the world but it's not an exclusive thing. As the link below touches on, to "own blackness" isn't to hide it in a closet where only a few can experience it. It must be shared as a testiment to who and what we are. And in the midst of that there will be those of other cultures that excel in it. Eminem, Big Pun, Dirk Norwitzski, Justin Timberlake, etc,etc....
As Jillz said in regards to the Zeta Tau Alpha vistory. As long as they respect the culture its all good.
It's the same way I feel about "black love" it's not just about black people loving each other but in a nation where we're put at the bottom its to be truly loved and appreciated by others as well.

I was seeing alot of racist comments and blog posts about this and was disappointed. For anyone to say its our thing or their thing, what is ours and theirs anyways. I personally think no one has the right to claim anything, as long as things are done in respected forms. Let's give credit when the credit is due. I am sure they won is fair and square.
If I was apart of Zeta Tau Alpha, I would make an appeal to the judge panel.
Honestly, as a black person I can admit that many of us have an issue with ownership. Due to once being viewed as property, we take owning things a lil overboard. How many times have you heard the following?
"This is my house","I own these streets." "This is my court","I own this city" etc,etc....
We dont own shit truthfully so it's really social overcompensation.
The truth of the matter is I have heard the same difference from one race against the other race one too many times. I just see people as individals. My comment wasn't against or towards any race. This all boils down to some individuals' close mindedness. It's just a constant reminder to me that as much as we would like to think racism exists less in these day and age but it hasn't changed a bit. Sad but I guess that's the world we live in.
I've been around stepping all of my life. Both of my parents are alums of HBCUs, and I'm an alumna of one as well. Also, both of my parents are part of black Panhellenic organizations, as well as I am...in other words, I know stepping.
I sit on the fence about this because on one hand, I'm all for equal opportunity, but on the other hand, this is our culture...African American culture, and stepping was derived from something deeper than any of the women of Zeta Tau Alpha will ever be able to sympathize or empathize with.
On another note though, over 90% of that routine was stolen from other black Panhellenic organizations, namely my brothers of APhiA, and for that, I can never respect a thief.
Thief? Thats quote a charge. Has anyone submitted that claim to those in charge of the Step Off?
