The staple of Disney Animation for decades has been the princess plot. Now it appears that Disney is looking to change with the times and give their royal "happily ever after" theme a rest. This can be good and bad in my opinion. If it results in more well rounded characters that young girls can relate to then great. But whats wrong with a little childhood fantasy? Why are we killing off our kids classic imagination? Based on the reasoning below I'm curious what direction Disney will go in.
Disney has decided not to do any more animated fairy tale movies for awhile, a 73-year tradition that made it the top children’s and family studio in Hollywood.
Thus, TANGLED will be the last animated fairy tale movie for a long time.
The biggest reason cited for this change is that girls no longer view princesses and getting married to be the ideal.

“By the time they’re 5 or 6, they’re not interested in being princesses,” said Dafna Lemish, chairman of the Radio and TV Dept. at Southern Illinois University and a self-proclaimed expert in the role of media in children’s lives. “They’re interested in being hot, in being cool. Clearly, they see this is what society values.”

I'm kind of torn on this as well...on one hand it's taking away a piece of a little girls childhood that has been a staple since forever...the classic princess story (though they can still be read to by their parents if they so choose). On the other I'm hoping they will give little girl's a little dose of reality and that they don't necessarily need to search for their prince charming to make their life complete...we'll see what Disney has in store
