It's Always Someone's Turn....

So last week Kobe calls a ref a "Fa**ot" and clearly that's not cool. Buuuut am I alone in thinking that the $100,000 fine and subsequent Gay and Lesbian activism that Kobe will be partaking in is a bit much for a heat of the moment word screams on the highest level of sports? No its not a good thing to say but anyone that has played ball on ANY level knows that any and everything is said between those lines and there has to be a sense of context to a situation.

To be 100% honest I feel like America has continued this level over sensitivity to everything. Maybe it was when Bin Laden slapped us all the face that we've been shaken internally but it seems that the nation can't say anything without feeling that they have to apologize and make the ultra over the top "make amends." See it's not that I don't see whats wrong. I get the the Homosexual community issues with that word but my thing is that we dont really care like that much.We give groups a certain level of extra protection for a period of time and then we move on to another group. Today lets not offends the Black folk so just insult Mexicans and Jews. Next month don't offend the gay people so do back to violating the Blacks, Mexicans and the Jews......oooh wait we're going too hard at the Mexicans so let's be nice to them.

Applying this to the Kobe situation makes me wonder if there will now be a other "special" words that don't get a pass vs. "acceptable" offensive language? At the cost of $100,000 that's some expensive talk. Calling a ref a "fu**ing fa**ot" gets the fine......but would anyone have reacted if Kobe called him a "bitchass ni**a?" for some reason I don't think so.
