50-60 Games? C'Mon Son!!!! GTFOH!!!!!!
I saw this other day and had to express my feelings on this idea. The concept of reducing the NBA season not due to lockout but rather because of this idea that the regular campaign is too long is a complete mystery to me. Who are these people that want a shorter season? Is baseball too long? Yes it is. But what on earth could you accomplish in a 50 game NBA season. Teams would be locking up playoff spots for the 20th-30th game. When would the trade deadline be? And then what, you have 15-20 games to get a new players worked into the teams system?
The issue isn't the length of the season. Similar too the idea of competitive balance it's the fault of bad management and talent evaluations that create piss poor teams performance-wise. Complaints of this nature are usually linked to examples of "no one wants to watch 2 sub .500 teams in March" Then do what needs to be done to improve that team not lessen the amount of times the public is exposed to their poor play.
Even as I loyally suffered through the past decade of Knick struggles, after being spoiled by the Ewing era I never wanted the season to be shorter. If the media is tired of covering the game then fall back and let some of the talent scattered around the Internets do the it. One thing I've learned during the lockout is that many of these journalists are nearly as creative or funny as they think they are.
