So this is what really bothers me about the current "bad economy".You see, yeah things aren't' great but depending on your mind frame and how you handle yourself, especially being young the economy hasn't smacCed me in the face as it has many other people. In fact the dropping gas prices have been a welcome change. BUT this morning I come to work and receive an email "sadly" informing my co workers that ALL wage increases for the upcoming year have been canceled.Ain't that a bitch. Now 'm thankful to even have a job but what put my co workers in a funky mood and what put a sinister smile on my face is that my job has been BLOWING money left and right on needless renovations, spending hundreds(at times thousands) on food for meetings that other managers have deemed worthless and a waste of time.Yet they can't pay us?We had an annual summer day full catered picnic that they canceled and replaced with burgers and hot dogs in our parking lot. They canceled our elaborate holiday party in exchange for a 2hour lunch this Friday and the office closing early and no holiday bonuses either.
It's alright though because I'ma get mine believe me.In the mean time my corporate counterparts can eat a big fat donkey dicc.

I experienced that when I was working for a past employer. I even had my paycheck bounce once because they were paying money on looking good for the public when they couldn't afford it.
it's a double edged sword..and unfortunately "regular" employees get the sharpest end...i completely understand your point, but at the same time from being in a corporate environment for most of my working career, some things are just "bigger picture" related...cancelling a lot of employee related things are bad for morale, and you can always find the downside, but sometimes you just have to trust that whoever is in charge is making the right decisions..when i got laid off, it didn't make sense to me that all these people got laid off and we just recently hired and created all these VP positions, or that maybe the people up top should take a paycut...ironically for short term impact, it's cheaper to keep them because their contracts usually have a termination agreement which often times is paying them their salary for a year, so you'd be spending it anyway, where as you cut lower employees, maybe severance maybe not, but less than cutting an exec...
...catch 22...just depends on what side of the coin you are...
