Nerd Moment: Flashback in 8 bits of Pleasure

Last evening while chatting away on AIM with the Texthibitionist the subject of drawing came up. It's something I do, well did A LOT more as a kid before turning to writing but that topic somehow led into video games. And boy did I "Go IN" on that subject matter. I became lost in flashbacks of my youth. Before lifting weights, before basketball, before South Beach it was Ninja Tag, Super Soaker fights and VIDEO GAMES!!!! This is the focal point of the nerd in me. Hours upon Hours on the Nintendo playing, excelling, mastering and utterly destroying any things placed in front of me.I honestly think that's why I multitask so well now. I've been thinking in multiple directions and dimensions since I was 6 yrs old.

At one given point my brother and I had over 60 Nintendo games. And I'd say expect for 2, I beat them all. I know you that I didn't beat was JAWS and that was because it just got boring. When we got the Nintendo for xmas I got the Legend of Zelda with it.So I was hooked into role playing action games from the jump (I have the pic from that xmas morning and NO the evidence of me in tight ass PJs will not be revealed)

I took my game playing very seriously. My boy Loki and I would catalog our scores and how fast we beat games. And compare them vs. the official Nintendo magazine ,Nintendo Power that posted up the best players in the Nation. We'd laugh at what they considered "high scores." We smashed them all. Super Mario Bros 1,2,3, TMNT 1,2,3 Double Dragon 1,2 Dragon Warrior, The whole Final Fantasy series Domestic and Japanese, Earthworm Jim, Ninja Gaiden 1,2, All the Castlevania's......we were the SHIT!!!

I still remember the day I got Super Mario Bros 3. July 4 1990 at a electronics store on Central Ave in Scarsdale. Those that were into game like I was knew the hype behind that game.It set sale records nationwide when it dropped and was featured in the Fred Savage gamer flick "The Wizard"

**Sidenote**
The Wizard couldn't see me on my worst day.

I tell you the memories just pour out when I think of video game days.Busting ass at the local pizza spot, Pizza Bella on Street Fighter 2, storming the Little Mexican Cafe to play Mortal Kombat. Life was so much simpler then. And while I may be more interested today in making a sex tape then finding secret cheat codes, I'll never let go of the lil skinny kid that would sit and play BattleToads until his thumbs were sore.

But if this is ever me in 20 yrs.......FAIL

I swear I was addicted to video games- especially Eternal Champions, Tekken, Mortal Combat, Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Double Dribble. *sigh* LOL

I still have all my Game Systems from Sega Genesis to Playstation 2. Hell, they still WORK, so I still play em'. Not as much as I DID but dammit, when I do, I'm a WARRIOR.
