As it happens every March we get that early preview of Spring w/ a nice jump up in the temperature reading. We tapped 70 yesterday and I decided to enjoy a rare walk through New Ro to knock out a few errands and clear my head. I need to do this more often......

Memories of Hustle Moves,Women & Free Rides....

With my current state of limited mobility. I find myself in a situation where I must locally entertain myself. New Rochelle has always been a great place to live but you had to be able to get out of town for any type of serious pleasure. We haven't had a shopping mall since the early 90's. There was an extended period during my youth when we can no movies. You had to either go to The Galleria, Cross County, Bay Plaza or Fordham Rd do anything. Pictured above is New Roc City. It's the local entertainment center that has movies, an arcade and few restaurants. The kids stake it over on weekends and all summer.....I'll find my moments to dip in a kill some time. Maybe I'm see if the old games I used to master are still in there.

When New Roc1st opened up it was just the arcade. I worked there because  my old boss from Playland (yes I worked at Playland too) was the hiring manager. This resulted in a nice reunion of old faces. Within the first couple months here I got comfy and strong armed my way into a supervisors position. Basically if I was gonna be given supervisor duties I promoted and refused to back down till my pay went up.

Photography Challenge: 13

Well this actually got crossed up with a previous day at asked for my home and I answered in a more general way acknowledging New Rochelle when they it was my home i.e apt that they wanted. No biggie. They wanted the city I'm in today so just flip flop with the other challenge day.

Looking in the past to clear a Future path.....

Had a pleasant weekend. With good weather came BBQ's, Alcohol(dont need good weather for this..lol) and reminiscing about past wild times with my old high school folk. First I dipped through the streets of Mt Vernon which is always a treat....and showed love to Kream on the Industry tip at the DigiWaxx annual BBQ.



It was small industry get together. Nothing big but even checkered with a few music insider, behind the scenes makers, (wannabe)models and artists. Mims, who was/is Digiwaxx's claim to fame tried an impromptu performance but is was an true "fail" in execution and setting. Before saying my good byes I did have a very good discussion on the current crop of "artists" vs what I/we grew up on. I'll be writing about that specifically tomorrow on thehiphopdemocrat.com. But it was a pretty good time.

I then return to New Ro to touch down at my boy Joey Escobar's 29th bday gathering. This is a guy that I've known since 1st grade. We started out as enemies, as he took my glasses and left me crying in 1st grade. His pleasure was short lived as I punched him in the face and took my frames back. Since then nothing but respect. We've been thru it all party, bullshit, laughs, beef, guns, drugs the WHOLE nine. And to top it off he named his 1st born son after me....old nyc graffiti tat style.




So, after downing a couple drinks and couple shots we chatted about life.He spoke on the married life and the guys I haven't seen in a bit. And I got him caught up on me and my life. It was just ill to zone out and remember where and what you've been thru. I need more nights like this.

Students at an elementary school in New Rochelle, NY, a largely Democratic suburb of New York City with a City Council and School Board dominated by Democrats, were recently assigned an in-class assignment to color in drawings of Barack Obama to mark the occasion of the inauguration of the 44th President. The drawings depicted Obama in various heroic poses, flags waving in the background, but one drawing went beyond adulation into overt political activity disguised as a pedagogical exercise. The drawing is a campaign button, in the center of a circle Barack Obama is smiling surrounded by another circle with the words "Students for Obama 2008".
