As I read the increasing number of Obama based blog entries about how much of an inspiration he is(which I do agree with), I can't help but think "Damn how fucC'ed up were we that a blacC man has to become president to conspire change?" It took a man being the most powerful person on earth for blacc men to hopefully not idolize criminals, for our women to hopefully give up the "I need a bad boy" bullshit, for kids to hopefully accept the concept that higher education is cool?
Were we really THAT messed up? Isn't it crazy that we needed ALL of this just to grow up?

some people need a physical manifestation of possibility to believe...and that's what Obama was/is...while it does inspire change and hope...ambition/desire without action is what is that proverb...like a ship on dry land...?...
in any case...in the midst of all the walk the talk..and talk the walk...let's hope that everyones talk falls in line with their walk...Mr. President included..
Reality is...NO MORE EXCUSES..
It's not that we needed someone to INSPIRE us (or that young black men needed him to be in his position to inspire.) I believe that it's that black men were always PORTRAYED negatively.
YES, we had Colin Powell previously... And there have been other black men in power. HOWEVER the position of PRESIDENT of the free world is now held by one of us. A black person. So it's inspiring to know that you can make it to that level of power.
We all know that 'image' that black men have. It's no secret that they're probably the most feared group of people... But... this kind of softens that...
It's up to us to keep that positive image going...
@Jillz
Yeah we'll see....I want to put ignorant negroes and sore loser republicans on the endangered species list.
@Jae
Imagery is one thing and I think that will be greatly improved but even outside of what the media shows there are still a lot of funny attitudes entrenched in the community. "Why you talk all proper?You turning to be white." Or "Yeah he gotta job and benefits but he ain't man enough for me.I need a G." Both of those are quotes I've overheard personally. LOL.....we got a lot of work to do alright.
Ummm-- that whole intra-racial racism ( which is what you mentioned in your response) isn't exclusive to men... I wrote a blog about this...
Speaking proper doesn't belong to whites. Having a good job and being self sufficient is not exlusive to 'squares'.
The women who want the "G", usually DESERVE the "G" and not the man who will rise to the occasion but sees no reason to bring about conflict. Why would a man of substance want to lower himself to fit into some broads want for a 'g'?
They don't. So... The image that President Obama presents is one of the black male optimum. Reaching your level. Getting to the top, and then setting an example. He's not NEEDED by those who excel on their own... However, he is like a shot of life to those who need something to believe in.
Whatever it takes to make our race rise above, is what it takes. Just do it.
And like Jillian said... no more excuses.
