it all depends on the individual and what you want. but, for those who must have sex, i would assume it would be better to be in the relationship. at least, you'd being getting some sex than no sex at all

If you aren't getting enough, talk to your partner about it. If he/she can't give you what you need and the issue is that important, then bounce and find someone who can keep up with you.
If you're single and not getting any, stop being single. There are many desperate folks out there who are willing to partner up. Or get a shag buddy. That is all.
