Nothing gets people talking about the beauty of relationships like Jay & Bey. Pix pop up of the power couple somewhere on the planet enjoying life and everyone will love it. They're so sweet. Love how Jay lights up around her, ect,etc....well I mean yeah they're married isn't that what it's supposed to be. Dont get me  it's great to appreciate love but sometimes I wonder if in the midst of appreciation does this speak to what many are missing? How many folk not only see a JayZ & Beyonce as a beautiful thing but also as the primary example of what a relationship should be? Many don't see this in their personal life so the go to substitute are the higher profile members of society. Similarly with the President Obama and the 1st Lady it's great to see but when folk ask me about my definition of love it's my parents way before I think of any other couples......we need to get those home grown role models back.

Is This Support or A Hustle

I saw this Jay & Russell pic a few days ago and truthfully the first feeling that hit me was unease. Was Jay now supporting the movement? If so was it through finances? Maybe supplying the protesters with goods and essentials? Or was he just there to make an appearance cuz #Occupy is just so cool these days. Since I didn't know just how real Jay's support for the cause was I decided not to speak on it. Now word comes out the "Occupy All Streets" Rocawear shirt was being offered to the public but with no % actually going the movement? Huh?........Really?

The ‘Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement. Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.

Well this is didn't sit well with OWS Leaders including Priscilla Grim who let us know exactly how she felt about Mr Carter.

Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”

Clearly the message was received as the OAS Rocawear shirt is no longer up on the site. I've got no real issue with Jay-z but I like when a person steps to a figure of power and calls them out for their b.s. A large portion of the Hip Hop society bows down to all Jay does. Well, even the best of us need a reality check every so often.

Ski Beatz, Sauce Money, and the Ruff Ryders' co-founder Waah Dean tell some lesser known facts about the Bronx battle on a pooltable between the Roc-A-Fella honcho and Darkman X.

At some point in the mid-early '90s, at a small, smoke-filled pool hall in the Bronx, a Brooklyn-based emcee named Jay-Z battled an up-and-comer from Yonkers known as DMX. X, who cabbed in to town from Baltimore just for the event, stated in his 2003 autobiography that he had no original intentions of getting involved that night. He was there as a witness, who’d only enter the fray if absolutely necessary. And, soon enough, it was. “The people knew that were the top dogs of our crews,” he wrote, “and they wanted us to go at it and after a few more rounds, I just couldn’t stand to the side anymore. It was time to hold down the fam.”

To this day, details of the battle between Jay (who was an affiliate repping Original Flavor at the time) and DMX (who stood alongside an Uptown-based group called the Harlem Knights) remain murky. So HipHopDX caught up with three people who were in attendance—Original Flavor member Ski (n/k/a Ski Beatz), Jay-Z/Original Flavor associate Sauce Money, and Ruff Ryders co-founder Waah Dean—to learn more about what went down that night. Each of the three admitted that many of the specifics have faded from memory, but that they’d recall what they could.

Waah Dean: We did [the battle] on neutral grounds. Instead of doing it in Brooklyn or Yonkers, we did it in the Bronx.

Ski Beatz: When I rolled up, I was with Dame Dash, Tone Hooker, Jay-Z, and I think some of Dame’s people from Harlem—his crew called The Best Out. That was the name of his crew, from Harlem. I think Dame set [the battle] up. It was like a Brooklyn-Uptown/Harlem kind of thing. So we all met at the pool hall, in the Bronx.

Waah Dean: We heard some things about Jay-Z from Brooklyn, and from Dame, and we’d bump heads with their people every now and again. The word was out that we had these guys that was doing similar things—traveling to different areas and [battling]—so we knew in a matter of time we was gonna be in a place where somebody was gonna make the phone call, and say, ‘Yeah, we got this guy standing here, and they all wanna be here…’ and that happened. So we knew what was up. We didn’t really look for anybody, we just dealt with the situation as it was there. We knew [DMX] was one of the best, one of the greatest, so we wasn’t worried about no artist coming after him.

Sauce Money: Everybody who battled, I think it was myself, there might’ve been a girl—we had a girl, her name was Roughness—and T-Strong, and Jay. We had to get on top of the pool tables, so whoever’s battling, they’re standing on the pool table, going at it.

Waah Dean: There was no room in the building to stand at, so the only way to do it was to stand on the pool tables so everybody could see.

Sauce Money: The pool table was like a boxing ring. We were standing on opposite sides of the pool table going back-and-forth. While we were rapping, niggas were pulling out guns—all kinds of crazy shit.

Jay-Z overseas Speaking on all That Stuff w/ Tim Westwood

Jay-Z joined my UK show boss Tim Westwood for another epic sit-down to discuss his slew of new products (Jay-Z Hits Collection Vol.1, Decoded and more); saying that the items are collectibles and starter kits for his new fans who just think “New York State of Mind,” is Hov’s piece de resistance (*headsmack*).

Jay tells Tim that he was especially moved by a cloistered nun who wrote about how she knew hip hop was important but needed a book like Decoded to understand how and why. Jay: “Rap music is poetry, and we’re modern day poets.” (sidebar: wasn’t there some debate amongst academics last week about whether rap lyrics should be categorized as poetry? With some hip hop folks arguing no? )

They also discussed the Illuminati accusations, which seem to me to be built by obsessive conspiracy theorists and then spread by morons. Lol, and that led naturally to the King Hammer question (no, not this Hammer, but this Hammer ; )…

But when Jay-Z and Tim Westwood talk about Beyonce’s pregnancy rumors, I disagree when Hov scoffs at the possibility of US Weekly (or another tabloid) being able to leak the news before the couple does. Sadly, I think anything is possible in this age of paparazzi-gotcha-journalism.

Also, fascinating….Hov’s reaction to Willow Smith and their first meeting. He was most impressed by her, as a 9-year-old, being aware enough to tell him she was nervous, lol.

From the B-ball courts to Barber Shops to Bars nationwide the question of who's the top man on the mic is asked. And I personally dont think it has a clear answer. But freshh off their "Home & Home" concerts NY Mag writer Amos Barshad provides a very detail comparison of the D-Town and BK born headliners.

After taking on Detroit's Comerica Park last weekend, Jay-Z and Eminem's Home and Home Tour comes to New York today and tomorrow. Who better to inaugurate Yankee Stadium as concert hall than those two? And what better time to try to definitively answer the age-old question: Who is the greatest rapper alive?

Sales (Domestic)
Jay-Z: $31.3 million
Eminem: $48.47 million
Edge: A big win for Eminem, and one of the best arguments in his favor right off the bat. Based on numbers and numbers alone, he is No. 1.

Singles
Jay-Z: 42 "Hot 100" singles; 17 in the top 20; 1 No. 1
Eminem: 33 "Hot 100" singles; 16 in the top 20; 4 No. 1s
Edge: Too close to call, although if anything this speaks to Em’s track record. Before seeing the actual numbers, wouldn’t you have been certain the pop-friendlier Hova would have more No. 1s?
