Isn't That What It's Supposed To Be??

Nothing gets people talking about the beauty of relationships like Jay & Bey. Pix pop up of the power couple somewhere on the planet enjoying life and everyone will love it. They're so sweet. Love how Jay lights up around her, ect,etc....well I mean yeah they're married isn't that what it's supposed to be. Dont get me  it's great to appreciate love but sometimes I wonder if in the midst of appreciation does this speak to what many are missing? How many folk not only see a JayZ & Beyonce as a beautiful thing but also as the primary example of what a relationship should be? Many don't see this in their personal life so the go to substitute are the higher profile members of society. Similarly with the President Obama and the 1st Lady it's great to see but when folk ask me about my definition of love it's my parents way before I think of any other couples......we need to get those home grown role models back.

Geraldo Blames The Hoodie More So Then The Killer

By now I'm sure most of you have heard the remarks of Geraldo Rivera as the Trayvon Martin case and its various layers effect the nation. Geraldo, while not faulting the victim, does basically place an unusual level of blame on the clothing young Trayvon was killed in vs the stereotypical views of his murderer. No matter WHAT you wear there is no true connection to what happened in Florida that night. This falls very much in line with the train of thought many rape victims deal with. Being told that the way you dress aided in giving signals to warrant or invite sexual aggression is a common occurrence.

Geraldo spoke of the "Gangsta" look and while there is much that we as culture people do to create or feed into an "Angry or Bad Guy" type image, to judge all books bu there covers is silly and implies that we as adults can't tell the difference between fact and fiction. Is every wild haired white man a potential serial killer? We've already become hyper reactionary to the various "looks" of the Middle East and Muslims in general. 9/11 gave the nation ample reason for that. The Black American stereotypes are as old as this nation and Trayvon was the most recent reminder.

What gets me the most is that Geraldo is essentially asking us to accept the negative views and twisted images our society has of Black people and change OUR actions to comply with them. It is as if we should just accept this view and the potential of harm or death with it without a cry of objection at all.

Well, by now you know silence is NOT how we will react to this. Honestly I think there are other kids Mr Rivera should be worried about.

New York Brings Hoodie Season to the World For Trayvon Martin

I woke up yesterday with a few things on my mind. Personal issues, family issues and others could have easily held my focus but in the midst of that I knew that this day truly was not about me at all. I got up, ate breakfast, showered and packed my back pack for the day ahead. After a great lunch meeting I started contacting folk for the event to come. We were going to rally. The news has now gone national on the murder of Trayvon Martin and the lack of an arrest by the Sanford Police Dept of killer George Zimmerman. People are tired, frustrated and angry that the justice that they pay to have provided is not equally and fairly administered. So Union Square serves as the meeting point for the masses. We heard from various speakers before the Parents of Trayvon spoke to us. Showing strength that I could only hope that I'd have, they thanked us for the love and support.

The rally would then morph and grow with part of the crowd marching south towards the Brooklyn Bridge while another group which I was within would head north to Times Square. Words will fall short to express the feeling in the air and I can only pray that this sparks something long lasting and effective beyond the "cause of the moment" that so many other tragic acts turn into.

It's All Human Nature

Sitting back I glance at the television, 40+ inches of HD details makes the images so clear.....so there's no avoiding the vile things airing on networks ranging from ESPN to CNN. The faces of Power, Good, Bad and the Ugly are everywhere.

I observe things. I'm a people watcher 24/7. Those I deal with personally and those I see from a distance. There is a consistency of how power and/or the attempts to gain power effect people. Some folk gain power through their infectious spirit. They stand for something and the force of their will attracts those of a like mind. This can result in the formation of local tribes, cults, religions, government,etc....There does come a point where a leader or a group hit that power ceiling. The ceiling is the point where power is manageable yet still within the checks and balances of the people below. Unfortunately, few people are satisfied with the ceiling. They crash through it showering sharp glass and debris on the people they are supposed to be working with and for.

Is This Support or A Hustle

I saw this Jay & Russell pic a few days ago and truthfully the first feeling that hit me was unease. Was Jay now supporting the movement? If so was it through finances? Maybe supplying the protesters with goods and essentials? Or was he just there to make an appearance cuz #Occupy is just so cool these days. Since I didn't know just how real Jay's support for the cause was I decided not to speak on it. Now word comes out the "Occupy All Streets" Rocawear shirt was being offered to the public but with no % actually going the movement? Huh?........Really?

The ‘Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement. Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.

Well this is didn't sit well with OWS Leaders including Priscilla Grim who let us know exactly how she felt about Mr Carter.

Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”

Clearly the message was received as the OAS Rocawear shirt is no longer up on the site. I've got no real issue with Jay-z but I like when a person steps to a figure of power and calls them out for their b.s. A large portion of the Hip Hop society bows down to all Jay does. Well, even the best of us need a reality check every so often.

The World Around Our Young Girls

Just finished reading this post from yesterday. It touches on a lot. Sharing it with you all as I'm curious to what the reactions are.

Are these girls part of a Pregnancy Pact, which I hear is some nonsense when chicks in high school (it is still high school, isn’t it?) allegedly make a promise to their besties that they will all intentionally get pregnant. Back when I was in school that was called ‘just a matter of time’ but we I guess we evolve.

These girls could be students of a public school somewhere who all happen to have been occupying the bathroom at the same time and decided to snap a ‘Awe…look at us’ precious moment photo.
The answer is that I don’t know.

It's That No Good Steve Harvey Again!!!!

Many things in this world are not reliable. Some friends, weather forecasting, competent action in the government, on and on the list can go. As an avid people watcher nothing goes off like clock work like the Negro self assassination via the Internets before, during & after a BET Awards show. As the sun must raise so too will the digital peanut gallery be heard weighing in on the celebrity gathering. What catches may eye and got me thinking was the award for Humanitarian work given to Steve Harvey. Steve is no stranger to the BLVD. His Best Selling Book and personal relationship have been touched on here before, so when the time came I knew the usual anti-Steve rhetoric that to expect. 

 A statement I saw a few times on a few sites surprised me. Steve is no humanitarian. How is this so? Do his relationship issues, the most recent ones exposed as a fraud, over shadow his good deeds for fatherless black youth? I decided to take this thought to the Internets to see what folk were thinking. Within a private group on FB I asked a simply question. “What did you think of Steve Harvey winning his award at the BET Awards” Most of the initial comments were related to Steve’s book and how the success of that project doesn’t equal great humanitarian work. I then mentioned that the award was based more off the other things he’s done including his foundation. Once people looked into what it was about then the compliments flowed.

So that is the way that we handle famous folk. We hear the scandal, live for the drama but the info that we should be paying attention to we seem to miss. The times I’ve listened to Steve Harvey he never hesitates to admit he’s flawed and take no personal credit for the positive things he’s been blessed with. So I can never really get what true issues people have with him. Or to put it better what possible problem could you have with his deeds? Why do we hold celebs to standards many of us don't hold ourselves to? 

 I'm curious if Steve is not or can not be a humanitarian then just who is a true humanitarian? Who's the prototype for it? And what do you say when you find they did something wrong in their  private life. I simply don't get it. Our people come up from struggle and it's like we line up to strike our people down. It's us it's always us.....I guess I should be happy that folk are saying he's a part of the Illuminati.

All Equal Under the Rainbow????

Gotham's Empire State Building shows colors of support for the newly passed Marriage laws for folk of all sexual orientation. Many see this as a show of bad things to come. Other see it as a step towards civil equality. Me? I'm indifferent. I just hope it brings more money into the New York.
