Social Internets + Excessive Talkers = New Age Female Sport Fans & Male Gossip Lovers
This is more of an observation and I know it doesn't apply across the board. With that said I feel like people by nature can't help but wave the "Look at Me" flag. As kids we wanted parental attention and approval and as we've all grown the target changes and expands but the message is the same. We want our expressions heard beyond those immediately near us. What that results in are areas that seemed to be more exclusive to one respective sex now being more integrated.....to the extreme in some cases.
There are new voices being heard across the digital waves that hasn't always been there. Deep, booming voices expressing glee at the latest Real House Wives fight now populate the Internets via FB status updates and Twitter. It's comparable to bar room guys gatherings to discuss Days of our Lives. Interestingly enough the female side is even louder as the fairer sex engulfs social feeds with Fanatical sports ranking that rivals the most excitable college fan. It's almost as if each side is trying to out do the other in showing their newly realized appreciation of sports and reality TV.
It seems a bit much at times and yes I've muted females I know and/or follow and out right deleted some guys for suspect ass communications. I dont know. Clearly there is no role that either sex HAS to play but I guess personally I like my sports noise a lil more guy dominated and my gossip related "entertainment" handle by my ladies.
Oh well......

It's All Human Nature
Sitting back I glance at the television, 40+ inches of HD details makes the images so clear.....so there's no avoiding the vile things airing on networks ranging from ESPN to CNN. The faces of Power, Good, Bad and the Ugly are everywhere.
I observe things. I'm a people watcher 24/7. Those I deal with personally and those I see from a distance. There is a consistency of how power and/or the attempts to gain power effect people. Some folk gain power through their infectious spirit. They stand for something and the force of their will attracts those of a like mind. This can result in the formation of local tribes, cults, religions, government,etc....There does come a point where a leader or a group hit that power ceiling. The ceiling is the point where power is manageable yet still within the checks and balances of the people below. Unfortunately, few people are satisfied with the ceiling. They crash through it showering sharp glass and debris on the people they are supposed to be working with and for.
Hit the jump for a social review of the hunger for power...

Nothing Good Lasts in the Garden
Gotham....the Mecca....the center of the world. So many titles, so many grand wonders that attracts eyes from all over the globe. New York as it relates to sports just makes everything bigger, brighter and comes with far more scrutiny. The Yankees have titles to spare, the Rangers are 17 yrs removed from their last title but those of my generation remember it. Then we have the Knicks. Within my youth they cemented a rep of toughness, respect and pride. They fell short to the Jordan lead bulls and to Hakeem's Rockets but no one could charge the team with never leaving it all on the court.
The disrespectful trade that ushered in the end of the Ewing era has lead to a decade of embarrassment, poor management moves and the realization that no matter what sliver of hope we muster up, it is destined to be destroyed by the fool in charge of the company, James "Anti-Media" Dolan. He runs the Knicks like a part time hobby, more concerned with his twisted sense of loyalty that his lackeys should follow then acquiring the needed tools and assets that would generate success.
NY reacts to Walsh's departure.......*Sidenote*That Breeze guy is a fool

Obama on Vick: Good Message or Wasted Time????
The other day President Obama call Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congradulate him on his signing of Mike Vick and giving him a 2nd chance to rebuild his career. According to King, the president said that released prisoners rarely receive a level playing field and that Vick's story could begin to change that. Vick has become perhaps the biggest comeback story in some time and it has been a divisive one as well. I've chatted with a few people with differing views on the matter. Some have felt the President should have better things to do. Other have said it's a positive story of redemption that should be told.
Personally, I need my President to be human. I need to be able to relate to a guy in a way beyond political stance. Sports, music, social issues matter to me, etc, etc.... I don;t know how long this convo between Obama and King lasted. I'm sure technically speaking there were other things Obama could have been doing but I don't want a robot in office. If the President had flown from Thailand just to do this then I may have a different view but I think being able to connect on an everyday man level is an important thing.
Thoughts? Views? Opinions?

The marriage between Walt Disney, ESPN’s parent company, and Marvel Entertainment has produced its first cross-promotional baby and it’s a winner. As part of their season preview, Marvel teamed up with ESPN the Magazine to render all 30 NBA teams as superheroes a la rap album covers superheroes remix. The Celtics are the Fantastic Five. Kobe is Tony Stark. Durant is Thor. Dwight is Wolverine.Via TheRapUp & ESPN

Could This Be NY's Plan For the Summer of James???e
I'm really going to sit and watch how this all plays out because their are too many intangibles at play here. In the meantime ESPN took a crack at what they feel is Gotham's best approach to getting Lebron. Thoughts
It's the question the NBA world has been debating since Donnie Walsh took over the New York Knicks in April 2008 and vowed to clear salary-cap space to lure free agents to the Big Apple: Do the Knicks have a realistic shot at landing LeBron James?
Twenty-five months later, we still don't know.
We know about the Cavaliers' built-in advantages when it comes to keeping James, even if he chooses to become a free agent this summer, as expected: He is a local hero for a winning team, and in Cleveland he can make a higher salary for more years than elsewhere.
We know that the Bulls can make the case to LeBron that his future would be brightest in Chicago, given their young, athletic talent -- and that the Nets can say the same of New Jersey and Brooklyn, with a Russian billionaire and a hip-hop legend able to offer a unique combination of international appeal and street cred.
More after the jump.

The Looming Battle for Gotham City

I bleed Orange and Blu.During good and bad times I will not change my loyalties. From Ewing and Starks to Chandler and Lee I rep my team, but I'm not blind to the ailments and toxic management/ownership that has poisoned my team for the past decade. James Dolan and his Cablevision piggy bank has been a bane on any real attempts of reviving the New York franchise. Recent moves have put NY in a promising position this summer but nothing is set in stone. I'll believe it when I see it.
In the meantime I sit and watch the storm brewing on the horizon. Sweeping in is a Russian hurricane with nearly $10 billion of creative, confident energy. And in his own words, new Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has NYC in his cross hairs.
"We will turn Knicks fans into Nets fans,"

Just Do It.....No he's STILL doing it! SLAM ft Air Jordan

After years of crushing the dreams of his competition, inspiring athletes worldwide and making NIKE, Gatorade and many other products household names, Michael Jordan takes it to the CEO's chair as the first former player to gain majority ownership of a team. Seems only right that Jordan would pull this off and SLAM magazine takes a current do look at the man that defined an era.
Just about anyone could have written the feature about Mike as an owner—if you write for SLAM you likely know Mike’s career pretty well and have a feeling on this next stage, one way or another—but we went outside our usual cast of contributors for this one and asked the great Rick Telander to tackle the assignment. Having written about MJ for 25 years for the likes of the Chicago Sun-Times and Sports Illustrated, and privy to conversations and quotes with him none of SLAM’s comparatively new writers ever have, Rick has a perspective all his own.

The Internet does it again or We never should have given you computers!
Elijah Fields was a member of the University of Pittsburgh's football team until Wednesday, when he was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt declined to specify why Fields was kicked off the team, but as Every Day Should Be Saturday notes, the senior posted some unusual photos to Twitter recently. Along with pictures of shoes and shopping bags, there are three shots of obscene amounts of cash, neatly wrapped with rubber bands.

Fields added helpful commentary to two of the images, writing, "More to Come and Its Mine BITCH Burrr" and "Never knew Football was gon get me all this money Sike I Knew haha." Now that he's no longer on a football team, it may be some time before football gets him any more money.
So the urge to stunt online to people you don't even know costs another young man a potentially profitable career.
FAIL!!!!
