Hip Hop Zombies or My Night @ The Power 105 Breakfast Club Anniversary

On the heels of this past sunday nights Hot 97 Wu Tang show I found myself again at the Best Buy Theater Monday night for the Power 105 1 yr Anniversary show. I knew going in this it would be a very different crowd then what I was a part of the previous night. Where as the other NY Hip Hop station warmed up the crowd with classics paying tribute to Heavy D, J Dilla, Guru and more, this so was quite literally a RADIO party as generic ass "hits" were played and forcefully hyped up by Dj Self. Hell after awhile Self decided to let someone else Dj while he got his momentary shine on running around the stage with the mic dancing and what not. No there was no showing of actual Dj skills this night.

Anyway they then had French Montana open up..............

yeah exactly......

Then 2 Chains who I will continue to call Titty Boy came on next. I consider him strictly entertainment so it was cute as his current "Gettin' it" joint rang out.

Finally, Wale came out and honestly gave a solid performance and Meek MIlls closed it out. No Ross appearance or any other real surprises

What made the biggest impact on me with the lack of emotion of this audience. It was clearly a younger crowd. It was the crowd of people who honestly only listen the radio for their hip hop. They react to the "hot" singles for a few moments then you have to change to a song cuz their attention has been lost already. Currently popular songs were spung 2-3 just to get some reaction from them.

Understand that I just was in the same building as the Wu had the crowd insane performing FULL SONGS!!!!! The new generation was on full display and it was a poor representation. Hip Hop needs heart and emotion not the blind lemming like trance of the people today. I love this culture too much and as I watched the show even my boys and the women around noticed my dissatisfaction. This is the same reason I dont bother with Summer Jam anymore.....

I think I need to get to a Common show to relight the fire....

Enough Remixes!!!!!!!

I swear artists dont even give the original joint time to get busy before 30 remixes pop up.

Ross I know you know better then that, right!?!

So apparently the Soul Train Awards were last night. And in massive, pouty "titty attack" Rick Ross stormed out of the award show after losing to Eminem for "Best Rap Song". Now I'm a huge Eminem fan but also know the game and to be honest there are only a hand full of artists in hi hop that can bet Eminem at an award show and Rick Ross is not one of them. He's had a monster year after dealing with 50's antics but someone needs a reality check.

Right on cue to deliver that check was Chrisette Michele, who featured on "Aston Martin" Music w/ Ross. She served it up straight to the gut via her blog....

If this is the way hip hop is then I denounce it.
This is not about ego. This is about what I can bring to the world. My life is for the people. I live to give.
It’s my desire to bring life and freedom light and love everywhere I go. Upward mobility in the brown skinned community.
Who stands off at an award show because they don’t win? An award is winning at being as “stuck in a category” as possible. Congratulations to all the trophy holders who won at being the most like every one else.
I could have sworn hip hop was on the come up. But apparently rapping is about venting, bashing, chauvinistic pigging, and EGO. Not cool. Don’t LET me start rapping.
They say…I’m ecclectic. I’m underrated. I’m different. Well If I win an award it’s because I paved a way. Every award I’ve won was new in it’s category. You know why? Because I’m amazing at being my damn self.
Grammy – best alternative R&B song Centric award – Soul Approved Etc.
Have u even heard of those categories? Nope. But guess what? You ain’t never seen another me. And u never will. No ego here. Why? Because it’s none needed. My award is waking up every morning and CAKING off of what I believe in by the grace of God.
Maybe I’ll call my 4th album “winners : just like every body else” maybe not.
I pray with every song I sing Im singing from the bottom of my heart. If all we want is an award for telling our truths, then we really have no true reason. This isn’t a competition. This is a stage for self expression and I’m grateful for the opportunity to live on it. I’d sing even if nobody sang along.
-from the bottom of my disappointed heart. Hip Hop… Man up. I wanted to be supportive but I can’t understand you. I believed in you… But apparently you’re so high you can’t even see what the world needs.
Is all hip hop like that? Absolutely not! But some of it certainly is. Let me spit a few bars. I’m not that kinda hip hop. I rep hip hop too. But not that kinda ego trippin foolery.
Chrisette Michele – the girl on that Aston Martin Music record…
Spread love.
Ross must have caught the spirit of Kanye circa 2006......

Truth is Hidden here......

Even though Kay Slay sometimes comes across as the creepy old guy that's still in the club.(I'm mad at his hat) and interviewer(I use the term loosely) is annoying as hell. The main point is still true. The market for rappers is very very very very slim right now.Don't act like folk didn't warn you.

This video really could have been done in under 90 seconds.
