Rza Speaks on A Challenge to Respect Music
He continued, “I didn’t say nothing to him, I just took it to myself. I came back a week later and bought some music theory books and started studying music theory so I c[ould] be a legitamite musician, just to respect the craft of music. He was right; it’s unfair sometimes to have success on things when we haven’t paid our dues. I had paid my dues to Hip Hop, but I didn’t pay my dues to music, so I went and started studying theory.”

Black Comic Pioneer and Comic Writer Dwayne McDuffie Passes Away.....

Comic Book Resources reported Tuesday that prolific comics writer and animation producer Dwayne McDuffie passed away as the result of "complications due to a surgical procedure performed Monday
evening." The sad news comes on the same day that the All-Star Superman animated feature went on sale in North America. Based on the comic book series by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, the screenplay was written by McDuffie, who considered the finished film to be his favorite piece of animation work and spoke with ComicsAlliance at the New York premiere.
Dwayne McDuffie was a veteran storyteller respected by fans and creators alike. In comics, he is perhaps best associated with Milestone Media, the publishing company he co-founded with Denys Cowan to spotlight the work of African-American creators and characters. McDuffie's most famous creation for Milestone was the character Static, whose series was published from 1993 to 1997. Co-created by John Paul Leon, Static went on to appear in the popular Static Shock! animated series as well as many other books published by DC Comics, including a brand new ongoing series launching later this year.
For more than one generation of fans, McDuffie will always be beloved for his work as Executive Producer and head writer of Justice League Unlimited, the animated series that so perfectly expressed the action, humor and spirit of the DC Universe. Through the show, McDuffie is responsible for endearing viewers to the DC superheroes and to the genre in general, including many minorities and women, whom the writer always depicted with boldness and grace.
UPDATE: CBR is reporting that McDuffie died from complications having to do with "a surgical procedure" performed Monday evening.

"Thank You" to a Yankee Legend
I could say much in regards to what Andy Pettitte has meant to the Bronx Bombers. You can hold no grudge against a man that decides to gracefully leave the game after being the best at what he does in the most intense moments. Respect and well wishes to the Post season's most "winningest" pitcher. Enjoy your retirement.

Still gotta' be a man!

I'm not sure where it happened but when did tucking your ya manhood between ya legs and lettin' women do ANYTHING they want become the "in" thing to do? Now I'm not talking about being a over dominant monster, but I'm seeing waaaaay too much blatant disrespect out there and it's just puzzling to me. Men gettin' screamed at by their women in public, couples out to dinner with the females spending more time on their smart phone then speaking to their dates. Hell, I've seen the FB posts and had to ask, "If your at a dinner why are you on the phone?" Just so many instances where I'm like why the hell aren't you checking this situation!?! You either remove ya self from the situation or you shut it down.
Through trial and error I've learned a lot and can honestly self NO ONE I know would try to openly disrespect me and if they did it would be a 1st and last occurrence. Most people know that I love and respect women but you know what, we all have our place. If I'm with you my attention is owed to you, put the damn phone down and return the respect. If we have an issue in public that isn't a life and death problem. Shut your mouth and keep tight till we're in private.
Some types of disrespect aren't as blatant but still need to be handled. For example, when I see repeatedly DRUNK females I do look to see if there is a man in her camp be it friends, a partner, etc.....cuz again someone needs to check this. Maybe it's just me but I'm not gonna to be out and let someone close to me get wasted on a regular basis. If it's a birthday maybe or some special celebration but getting tore down just cuz it's Thursday isn't flattering at all.
I don't know maybe this is a bit of a ramble/rant but it is what it is. I think I'm just feeling much more firm with letting folk know what they can and can't get away with.

How much Power within the Pu$$y Collective?

Throwing this out for the readers. I'd like your views, opinions and thoughts on an idea tossed out by the homie Single Dame. As not to sway thoughts one way or the other please peep the opening of her blog post then hit the link for the entire post. Read it(and the comments if you want.) My question is this. What would such a movement result in if it were to happen?
"Nall, this ain't no damn boycott, GaDamnit this a PUSSCOTT! I'm callin' out to ALL THE PUSSY IN THE WORLD to close yo muthafuckin legs RIGHT NOW and just simply listen up!"

As basic as "the birds and the bees".............

This pissed me off and I had to bite my tongue as to not say what I really was thinking. You see my homegurl who I reference here. Was updating me on his situation (another reason I was relived to get away from NY for a lil bit). Anyway she was about wanting to get tested because of the realization that her former partner was cheating on her. Sure that's smart but I had to ask a few questions in regards to the "accident" she said she had.
Me: "Um when did you realize an accident happened?"
Her: "That night."
Me: "Soooooo why didn't you guys go get morning after to at least void the preg. issue?"
Her: "It was Saturday night...and the next day was Sunday."
Me: "................."
Her: "What?"
Me: "Morning after is available over the counter, its available at university health centers, planned parenthood and many pharmacies."
Her: "Well look at you all on point"
Me: (with a blank face)"It's not by accident I'm not a father."
Now I dont post this is to have my friend viewed in a negative light. But on the real side, failing to plan is planning to fail. You shouldn't be doing a damn thing if you don't have teh knowledge of how to handle any of the possible outcomes of your actions. That's just basic.....and she's older then me and a mom aleady.
That's why I rarely buy all that "it just happened....it was an accident stuff"
Get ya shit together

BET AWARDS: How Full is the Cup

With less then 72hrs to completely flip their plans. The unrealistic optimist would expect the perfect MJ Tribute show. The Pessimist would expect more buffoonery and coonery. The realistic expectation was somewhere in the maybe. And that's what it was. Neyo did a great job capturing a fraction of M.J spirit while Tpain, Lil Wayne and Co. And the Un needed Baby Boy re enactment did remind us that this is still BET. But I can live with that.
BET was the guinea pig for award shows. With all the MJ tributes lined up, the the 1st one up fell upon one of the more polarizing networks yet what other station really had more genuine love for M.J then BET? All the other tributes will correct what BET didn't execute as well. Hindsight is 20/20 you know. But we got a chance to show love for one of our own.
Yes, we all have had Mike jokes, myself included ,but when its "game time" how do you present yourself? Are you the wise ass, slicc talker twitterer or do you bring some substance to the table in your words? I say that for anyone that can't take a degree of positivity in the fact that youngest sister Janet shared her thanks and grieved openly with us, then you do better. Don't talk about it be about it. Take the tools you have before you that you use to promote your sexual conquests, boast ya ego, push ya new "hot" mixtape, pretend to be the urban paris hilton or whatever nonsense you clutter the internets with and do something better.
As for me I give a degree of respect to BET. While admitting to some flaws, in a case of giving like this, its many times the thought that counts. I like to think of this cup as 1/2 full.
Tears at this point?I know I had them.......
